Palazzetto Bru Zane

Research | Romanticism | Opera

For more than ten years, the Palazzetto Bru Zane – Centre de musique romantique française and the foundation of the same name have been dedicated to musical rediscoveries of French music of the long 19th century (1780-1920).

Based in Venice, the Palazzetto Bru Zane promotes the rediscovery of unknown composers of the Romantic period and their works: the musicological team researches rarities of all musical genres in archives and music libraries, from chamber music and symphonies to opera and operetta. The music finds are prepared to be played in concert halls, at festivals in Venice, Paris and other international venues.

Subsequent publication in high-quality CD books makes the works available to the public.

Ophelia's Culture PR has been providing PR support to the Palazzetto Bru Zane Foundation in German-speaking countries since 2012 - with general PR advice, classic press work, launching reviews of the publications and organizing press trips.

Each season of Palazzetto Bru Zane focuses on one composer. In addition to composers who are rather unknown in Germany, such as Lilli Boulanger, Hervé, Benjamin Godard, Reynaldo Hahn, Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Étienne-Nicolas Méhul and Jacques Fromental Halévy, the program always includes rediscoveries and rarely performed works by such famous artists as Saint-Saëns, Gounod and Offenbach.

Palazetto Bru Zane's loyal partners in France include the Theatre des Champs Elysee, Radio France, the Opera comique in Paris, and opera houses in Nantes, Toulouse and Bordeau. The Foundation also works regularly with Les Talents lyriques and Christoph Rousset, Flemish Radio Choir, Hervé Niquet and singers such as Veronique Gens, Jodie Devos, Bernjamin Bernheim and Tassis Chriystiojanis, and most recently with the Orchestre National Avignon-Provence and the Orchestre national des Pays de la Loire. IN Germany, regular partners include the Munich Rundfunkorcehster and the Leipzig Opera.

For its exceptional achievements in the field of applied musicology, Palazzetto Bru Zane regularly receives international prizes such as the Schallpattenkritik annual prize, the German Record Critics' Prize, the Echo Klassik, Opus Award, Oper! Award, ICMO and Grammophone Award.

Since 2009, the center for Romantic French Music has resided in a Venetian palazzo dating back to 1695, which was specially restored for the purpose. Around the clock, the rich musical heritage of French Romanticism is also available on its own radio station, Bru Zane Classical Radio. The publications appear on the Bru Zane label.

The year 2022 will be marked by the 200th birthday of César Franck, to whose chamber music a special festival will be dedicated at the Palazzetto in early April. In addition, performances at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège (Ambroise Thomas: Mignon), the Budapest State Opera (Luigi Cherubini: Les Abencérages) and other international houses are on the Palazzetto Bru Zane Foundation's programme. This will be followed in June 2022 by the release of the first recording of Jules Massenet's orchestral songs, to whom another festival at Palazzetto Bru Zane will be dedicated in early October. October will also see the release of a new CD book of Giacomo Meyerbeer's "Robert le Diable".
