The Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège is located in the heart of the city of Liège. As one of Belgium's three royal opera houses, it is one of the most important cultural institutions in the Walloon region and celebrated its 200th anniversary in the 2020/2021 season. In September 2021, Stefano Pace started as the opera house's artistic director, and Speranza Scappucci has been its chief conductor since the 2017/18 season.

Internationally renowned soloists and a varied program with classics of the repertoire and exciting rarities are trademarks of the opera house. A consistently high occupancy rate shows the great popularity with the local audience. The strong supra-regional appeal of the house attracts visitors from Germany, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and even Great Britain.

Founded in 1820 by the citizens, the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège has a longer tradition than the Belgian monarchy. Today it is a modern opera house with regular online broadcasts, realized by Culturebox and medici.tv among others, which are received worldwide. The repertoire focuses on works of Italian opera, but more obscure operas such as those by D.F.E. Auber and Ambroise Thomas are also regularly on the program. The opera house also boasts a first-class, international Stagione ensemble of singers.
