Junge Deutsche Philharmonie

Orchestra | Innovation | Education

The Junge Deutsche Philharmonie brings together the best students from German-speaking music academies between the ages of 18 and 28 who are passionate about making music and creating visions for the future together. The "Orchestra of the Future" is creative, lively and full of drive to shape the musical world of tomorrow! It has set itself the highest artistic standards as a benchmark. Every year, it develops experimental, interdisciplinary concert formats for its own FREISPIEL festival. The Junge Deutsche Philharmonie regularly tours the largest international concert halls. Since 2014, Jonathan Nott has accompanied the orchestra as principal conductor and artistic advisor.

Ophelia's Culture PR supports the JDPh not only with press work for the FREISPIEL festival and its tours, but also tries to find new innovative ways of communication together with the musicians. The PR of the JDPh not only shows the orchestra itself in all its facets, but also the quality, creativity and the way into the professional life of the young musicians.

The JDPh's focus on contemporary music has been written into the orchestra's DNA since its founding in 1974. The orchestra aims to push the boundaries of classical music, break down traditional listening habits, and make it possible to experience all the sonic possibilities of music. In addition to contemporary music, the major symphonic repertoire and historical performance practice are at the center of the programs.

Since its founding, the Future Orchestra has been a democratically structured orchestra. Every member of the orchestra has the opportunity to actively participate in the orchestra's management in committees such as the board of directors or the program committee. The young musicians pass on their passion for making music in music education projects, in concert introductions and school visits, on tours or through long-term cooperation with schools in the Rhine-Main region.

With its work, the JDPh bridges the gap between studies and career and is an important seal of quality for many professional orchestras.

The orchestra's work is honored and recognized, among other things, by the patronage of Monika Grütters, the federal commissioner for culture and the media, the regular invitations of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra to the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, a sponsorship with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra that has been in place since 2015, and by winning the 2020 Binding Culture Prize.
