Concerto Copenhagen

Early Music | Orchestra | Scandinavia

Founded in 1991, Concerto Copenhagen celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2021. Scandinavia's leading baroque orchestra plays in the league of the world's most exciting and innovative early music ensembles. The musicians delight audiences in Denmark, Europe and internationally with their own vital exploration, probing and transgression of the boundaries of Baroque music.
Since 1999, the renowned harpsichordist Lars Ulrik Mortensen has been artistic director of the ensemble. This partnership has developed into a rich journey of musical discovery that has garnered acclaim from audiences and critics worldwide. The hallmark of the programs is the combination of well-known masterpieces with lesser-known repertoire of Scandinavian origin and contemporary composers.

Ophelias Culture PR supports Concerto Copenhagen in German-speaking and international PR and press works. The focus is on the orchestra's new CD releases and tours, using classical press work and organizing press trips to raise awareness of the orchestra outside Denmark.

Baroque masterpieces in fresh and innovative interpretations are the trademark of Concerto Copenhagen. Great repertoire classics such as Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, but also rarities such as George Frideric Handel's Brockes’ Passion have set standards in recent years - both in CD productions and in tours with these programs. The focus of the ensemble is always on rarely performed Scandinavian baroque music. Numerous award-winning CD recordings have been made by the ensemble.

In addition to its Baroque focus, Concerto Copenhagen has worked intensively for many years with the Danish contemporary composer Karl Aage Rasmussen and regularly performs his works, including numerous world premieres. For several years he was the Baroque Ensemble's "Composer in Residence," and albums such as "The Four Seasons After Vivaldi" (2019) and "Alone & Together" (2020) attest to the successful collaboration.

In the anniversary year 2021, in addition to several tours, two new albums were published, with Johann Sebastian Bach's "The Overtures" and cello concertos from Joseph Haydn and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach.
