bauhaus / music

Bauhaus | Music | Festival

Since 2021, the Bauhaus Archive Berlin, directed by Dr Annemarie Jaeggi, has been engaged in a research project in an interdisciplinary team around the musicologist and project leader PD Dr Kai Hinrich Müller. The aim is to systematically reconstruct musical life at the historical Bauhaus stations in Weimar, Dessau and Berlin. This will close a gap in music and Bauhaus research, which has largely avoided the connection between musical life and the Bauhaus until now.

2023 is the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus Week 1923, in which music was of central importance. An ideal time to draw attention to the role of music at the Bauhaus:
The bauhaus / music weekend from 22 to 24 September 2023 will take up the previously unknown contexts and references between Bauhaus and music - including a premiere - for the first time. The artistic director is the conductor and world-class clarinetist Karl-Heinz Steffens and the pianist Michal Friedländer, who comes from Israel.
