Basel Sinfonietta is an orchestra specialised on in contemporary music with symphonic instrumentation- and in so far a unique orchestra worldwide. Principal Conductor of the Basel Sinfonietta is Baldur Brönnimann.
Driven by the ambition to perform music on the pulse of time through composition commissions, world premieres and Swiss premieres, the Basel Sinfonietta has been pushing boundaries of classical concert conventions and attracting international attention with its daring programs full of contemporary music since its founding in 1980.
Since 2020, Ophelias PR has accompanied the Basel Sinfonietta in the development of an international PR strategy.

The Basel Sinfonietta is a self-regulatory orchestra. Due to its organization as association, any and all musicians can participate in the democratic decision-making process regarding the direction and programming of the orchestra.
In addition to its own series of six subscription concerts, the Basel Sinfonietta is a regular guest at festivals such as ZeitRäume Basel and Culturescapes. The orchestras’s increasing international presence has been evidenced by appearances at the Wiener Konzerthaus, the International vacation courses for New Music, the Dialogue Festival of the Mozarteum Foundation or the Warsaw Fall.
Highlights of the season 2021/22 inlcude guest performances at ART Basel, the Bern Music Festival, and Theater Basel; collaborations with composer Unsik Chin as well as Jonathan Bepler, Dieter Ammann and Hèctor Parra; with pianist Joonas Ahonen, the chamber ensemble of the Orquesta Experimental de Instrumentos Nativos (OEIN), the NDR Bigband and the VEIN Trio; and also with conductors Pablo RUs Broseta and Jörg Achim Keller.
The Basel Sinfonietta is financially supported by the Kantone Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft, among others.
