The 2019 international Ernst von Siemens Music Prize will be awarded to the British composer Rebecca Saunders. The award, given for lifelong service to music, is accompanied by a prize of €250,000. The presentation ceremony will be held on 7 June 2019 at the Prinzregententheater in Munich. Rebecca Saunders is a master of effective progressive tension and expansive sound architecture. Her unique sound idiom makes the Berlin-based British composer one of the leading proponents of her generation of composers.

Ensemble Modern proudly looks back on a long-standing and intensive collaboration with the composer and will perform two concerts with her works over the next few days. The ensemble dedicates a portrait concert to Saunders which will be performed at the Southbank Centre in London (January 19, 2019). Under Vimbayi Kaziboni’s baton, Ensemble Modern presents three of her characteristic works. The portrait concert has already been performed at the Frankfurt Opera, the Ruhrtriennale in Essen and the Klangspuren Schwaz in Innsbruck. Her work "Fury" was part of the acclaimed evening program of dance music "Story Water", recently performed in Aix-en-Provence, Antwerp and Paris.

The subscription concert on January 21 at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt will also feature "Skin", a composition by the recent award winner.
