Junge Deutsche Philharmonie on spring tour with Jörg Widmann
On its spring tour, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie once again demonstrated that it summons together the orchestra professionals of tomorrow. In March, the young musicians and Jörg Widmann embarked on a collaborative tour and made guest appearances in Germany's major concert halls.
The Hamburger Abendblatt reported on the concert at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg: "Under Widmann's baton, the members of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie - an elite group of carefully selected music students - demonstrated their professional standards, be it in the solo wind parts or in the tutti when the composer delves deep into the colour palette and, as usual, virtuosically plays with contrasts to create intriguing blends, such as the shimmering anthracite mix of bass clarinet, double bass and accordion."
And the FAZ Rhein-Main-Zeitung remarked: "And as a soloist, Widmann also proved absolutely convincing in his 2016 arrangement of the Andante from the Clarinet Sonata (1824) by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809-1847) for clarinet, string orchestra, harp and celesta : With smooth softness, he sculpts the seemingly infinite balladesque melody, tracing out its recurring phrase endings."
