The 42nd Karlsruhe International Handel Festival was a resounding success with Franco Fagioli in the title role of "Serse", staged by Max Emanuel Cenčić – who also took on the role of Arsamene. In summary: five sold out performances, jubilant audiences and superb reviews.
A sparkling bouquet of 304 singers from 49 nations have applied to take part in this year's Competition in Oslo, 13 – 23 August. The Scandinavian screening jury will evaluate all applications during April. In early May, QSIMC will invite around 40 singers to take part in the Competition in August.
On 16 May, the project which strives to research and perform the "Ring of the Nibelung" from a historically informed performance practice perspective continues to the next round. Concerto Köln and Kent Nagano immerse themselves further into Wagner's soundscapes with the "Wesendonck Lieder" and Bruckner's Symphony No. 3 in D minor.
"Beethoven vs. Woelfl" is the motto of Luisa Imorde's album, "L'Affaire d'honneur", which was released in February. For her second CD, she refers to a competition between Ludwig van Beethoven and Joseph Woelfl.
What a spring season for Xavier Sabata! In February, the countertenor wowed both audience and press in the world premiere of Benet Casablanca's opera "L'enigma di Lea" at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.
