Jörg Halubek has made a name for himself as a conductor, organist, and maestro al cembalo. With his ensemble il Gusto Barocco, founded in 2008, the Early Music specialist regularly performs at renowned festivals in the German-speaking world and hosts the “Stuttgarter Reihe”. A key focus of his work is the rediscovery of forgotten operas and rarely performed works. Notable projects include Johann Sigismund Kusser’s Adonis, Telemann’s Handel arrangement Cleofida, and Johann David Heinichen’s Flavio Crispo, all of which he has revived with his ensemble and released as world premieres on CD through cpo. In 2025, he will bring Johann Christian Bach’s Amor vincitore to the Schwetzinger SWR Festival for the first time with il Gusto Barocco.
As an opera conductor, Jörg Halubek has been invited to lead productions at prestigious venues such as the Stuttgart State Opera, Kassel State Theatre, National Theatre Mannheim, and the Komische Oper Berlin. Recently, he conducted Baroque operas at the Lucerne and Basel theatres, collaborating with the La Cetra Baroque Orchestra. In Lucerne, he explores 20th-century opera for the first time with Requiem for a Prisoner, Dallapiccola’s Il prigioniero.
A passionate project of this distinguished professor of organ and historical keyboard instruments at the Stuttgart University of Music is Organ Landscapes – an ambitious initiative exploring the organ landscape of Johann Sebastian Bach through his works on historical organs.
