Although Johann Sebasti­an Bach’s life nev­er took him to Stut­tgart, his music is firmly rooted in the state cap­it­al of Baden-Württem­berg. The ‘Stut­tgart Bach style’ is now a firm favour­ite with spe­cial­ist audi­ences. This is due in par­tic­u­lar to the tra­di­tion-steeped Stut­tgart Inter­na­tion­al Bach Academy. Since 1981, it has been keep­ing the music­al her­it­age of Johann Sebasti­an Bach, his con­tem­por­ar­ies, pre­de­cessors and suc­cessors alive through events and edu­ca­tion, train­ing and research. Diverse con­cert formats, innov­at­ive music edu­ca­tion and the digit­al offer of pod­casts and con­cert streams make the Inter­na­tion­al Bach Academy Stut­tgart one of the most import­ant centres for the cul­tiv­a­tion of Bach.

With ‘VISION.BACH — Under­stand­ing life with Bach’, the Inter­na­tionale Bachakademie Stut­tgart has embarked on a large-scale can­tata pro­ject. The ori­gin­al ensemble of the Gaechinger Cantorey under Hans-Chris­toph Rade­mann per­formed Johann Sebasti­an Bach’s first Leipzig can­tata cycle in its entirety in the 2023/2024 sea­son. Exactly 300 years after its cre­ation, the sixty can­tatas were per­formed in 23 con­certs in churches and con­cert halls in the Stut­tgart region as well as at prom­in­ent fest­ivals. The record­ings of the can­tatas will be released in a ten-part CD edi­tion on the Hänssler Clas­sic label until 2026.
