Alt­hough Johann Sebas­ti­an Bach’s life never took him to Stutt­gart, his music is firm­ly roo­ted in the sta­te capi­tal of Baden-Würt­tem­berg. The ‘Stutt­gart Bach style’ is now a firm favou­ri­te with spe­cia­list audi­en­ces. This is due in par­ti­cu­lar to the tra­di­ti­on-stee­ped Stutt­gart Inter­na­tio­nal Bach Aca­de­my. Sin­ce 1981, it has been kee­ping the musi­cal heri­ta­ge of Johann Sebas­ti­an Bach, his con­tem­po­r­a­ri­es, pre­de­ces­sors and suc­ces­sors ali­ve through events and edu­ca­ti­on, trai­ning and rese­arch. Diver­se con­cert for­mats, inno­va­ti­ve music edu­ca­ti­on and the digi­tal offer of pod­casts and con­cert streams make the Inter­na­tio­nal Bach Aca­de­my Stutt­gart one of the most important cen­tres for the cul­ti­va­ti­on of Bach.

With ‘VISION.BACH — Under­stan­ding life with Bach’, the Inter­na­tio­na­le Bach­aka­de­mie Stutt­gart has embark­ed on a lar­ge-sca­le can­ta­ta pro­ject. The ori­gi­nal ensem­ble of the Gae­chin­ger Can­torey under Hans-Chris­toph Rade­mann per­for­med Johann Sebas­ti­an Bach’s first Leip­zig can­ta­ta cycle in its enti­re­ty in the 2023/2024 sea­son. Exact­ly 300 years after its crea­ti­on, the six­ty can­ta­tas were per­for­med in 23 con­certs in churches and con­cert halls in the Stutt­gart regi­on as well as at pro­mi­nent fes­ti­vals. The recor­dings of the can­ta­tas will be released in a ten-part CD edi­ti­on on the Häns­s­ler Clas­sic label until 2026. Ophe­lia’s Cul­tu­re PR deve­lo­ped a social media pre­sence for the pro­ject to pro­mo­te supra-regio­nal visi­bi­li­ty.
