La Cetra Basel is one of the most dis­tin­guished early music ensembles in Switzer­land and one of the most import­ant in Europe. Foun­ded in 1999 in the envir­on­ment of the Schola Can­tor­um Basi­li­en­sis, the ensemble has pas­sion­ately pur­sued authen­t­ic sound for over 25 years. Under the dir­ec­tion of the acclaimed Itali­an early music expert Andrea Mar­con, La Cetra Basel unites the Baroque orches­tra and, since 2012, also the vocal ensemble. The Basel ensemble’s rep­er­toire spans from the Renais­sance to the Clas­sic­al peri­od and encom­passes opera, vocal, and instru­ment­al music.

La Cetra is firmly rooted in Basel and in inter­na­tion­al demand: its own con­cert series in the Mar­t­in­skirche and Stadtcasino Basel altern­ate with guest per­form­ances in lead­ing European con­cert halls and renowned fest­ivals. In 2025/26, the ori­gin­al sound ensemble will be per­form­ing at pres­ti­gi­ous ven­ues inter­na­tion­ally. Dur­ing the tour in May and June, the ensemble will be appear­ing with Handel’s «Ariod­ante» at the Theat­er an der Wien, in Oviedo, at the Teatro Real Mad­rid, at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées Par­is, and at the Han­del Fest­iv­al Halle.
