The Erlking
The Viennese ensemble The Erlkings lets classical song repertoire shine in new and exciting colours with English-language adaptations and unusual instrumentation – guitar, cello, tuba, and percussion and vibraphone. With an eye on the upcoming anniversary years – the Beethoven year 2027 and the Schubert year 2028 – two central reference points of The Erlkings’ repertoire are coming into sharper focus.
The Erlkings’ extensive concert schedule has taken them to numerous prestigious festivals and concert halls in recent years, including the Wigmore Hall in London, the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Salzburg Festival, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, and Heidelberg Spring. Their intensive live presence has also been captured on numerous recordings: in collaboration with the independent label Rhythmic Dog Seven recordings have been made to date featuring Schubert, Schumann, Beethoven, and Haydn. The first live album was released in 2025. Characteristic of all projects is the direct access to the repertoire – with poetic English paraphrases and an ensemble that lends new sonic facets to the classical lied.
In the summer of 2026, The Erlkings will continue their international concert tour in Germany, Austria, Great Britain, and Slovenia, with a South American tour following in 2027. Stops include, among others, the Schumann Festival as part of City of Düsseldorf, the Schubertiade Vorarlberg, the Ryedale Festival in Great Britain, as well as concerts in Munich, Limburg and at Elmau Castle; further performances are scheduled at the Vienna Musikverein and the jazz club Porgy & Bess.
