Roy­al Opera of Wal­lo­nia-Liège

As one of Belgium’s three roy­al opera houses, the Opéra Roy­al de Wal­lonie-Liège is one of the country’s most import­ant cul­tur­al insti­tu­tions. Foun­ded in 1820 by the cit­izenry, the Opéra Roy­al de Wal­lonie-Liège has a longer tra­di­tion than the Bel­gian mon­archy. Today, it is a mod­ern opera house with reg­u­lar online broad­casts, real­ised by Cul­ture­box and medici.tv, among oth­ers, which are received world­wide. The cur­rent dir­ect­or of the house is Stefano Pace, and Giam­paolo Bis­anti has been the chief con­duct­or since 2022.

In the 2024/25 sea­son, Richard Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde for the first time since 1926 at the Opéra Roy­al de Wal­lonie-Liège. Fea­tur­ing Ben­oît Mernier’s one-act opera Bar­tleby Fol­low­ing Her­man Melville’s novella, an excit­ing premiere is sched­uled for May 2026. Oth­er­wise, in the 2025/26 sea­son, Goun­od, Moz­art, Don­iz­etti, and Verdi will meet Johann Strauss II, Tchaikovsky, Nino Rota, and Poulenc.
