The Queen Sonja Singing Competition
The Queen Sonja International Music Competition is one of the world’s leading singing competitions. It has been held every two years in Oslo since 1988 and, since 1995, has been aimed at classical singers from all over the world. The goal is, on the one hand, to support young, talented singers at the start of their careers, and on the other, to bridge the gap between the Norwegian and international music scenes. The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet, the Norwegian Academy of Music, the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Norwegian Royal Family act as institutional partners. Well-known artists such as Lise Davidsen, Elsa Dreisig, Daniel Behle, and Mari Eriksmoen have emerged from the competition.
At The Queen Sonja Singing Competition (Norwegian: „Dronning Sonja Sangkonkurranse“) a jury of internationally renowned opera directors, singers, and opera and casting directors from the world’s leading opera houses judges the competition participants. At the end of the competition is the final concert with the award ceremony by Queen Sonja of Norway.
This year’s QSSC will take place online from 11–12 June and in person in Oslo from 14–22 August 2025. The application deadline runs from 1 February to 1 April 2025. 40 singers from 19 nations will be invited to participate in the preliminary rounds on 17 and 18 August at the Norwegian Academy of Music. The winner of the competition will receive career advice and a prize of €50,000.
Since 2017, Ophelias Culture PR has supported the The Queen Sonja Singing Competition with international press work in order to present the competition worldwide and better. The means to achieve this are general PR consulting, classic press work and the organisation of press trips.
