Jonathan Roozeman
The Finnish-Dutch cellist Jonathan Roozeman is one of the striking young performers of his generation. He drew international attention to himself at an early age: in 2015, as the youngest participant, he won sixth prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition. Since then, he has performed as a guest with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the hr-Sinfonieorchester, and at international festivals and concert halls such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Lincoln Center New York and the Konzerthaus Berlin.
Contemporary Finnish music forms a special focus of his work. With Kaiku (Echo) – Finnish Contemporary Works for Cello Roozeman will release his debut solo album on BIS Records in 2026. The programme brings together works by Kalevi Aho, Cecilia Damström, Sebastian Fagerlund, Lauri Porra, Outi Tarkiainen and Sauli Zinovjev, including several world premiere recordings and pieces written especially for Roozeman.
Since summer 2026, Ophelias Culture PR has been supporting Jonathan Roozeman in connection with the release of Kaiku. The focus is on the media campaign for the album, the collaboration with the participating composers, and Roozeman’s special commitment to contemporary Finnish music.
