Concerto Köln

Passionate musicality and an unceasing desire to explore the unknown are the hallmarks of Concerto Köln. The ensemble, with its distinctive sound, is one of the leading ensembles in the field of historical performance practice. Firmly rooted in Cologne’s musical life, yet performing regularly in the world’s music capitals and at renowned festivals, Concerto Köln stands for outstanding interpretations of early music.

The Cologne ensemble’s repertoire includes not only Baroque but also early Classical works. The focus is on an authentic approach to the sound of the era in which the respective works were created. This passion for historical sound is also reflected in the ensemble’s long-standing and successful collaboration with its honorary conductor Kent Nagano and violinist Shunske Sato. As Wagner Interpretations The search for a historically informed approach to Richard Wagner’s „Ring of the Nibelung“ caused a sensation internationally. In this context, Concerto Köln has also explored the works of composers from Beethoven to Bruckner within their historical context. The realisation of the Ring is now being undertaken jointly with the Dresden Festival Orchestra under the title The Wagner Cycles continues as a project of the Dresden Music Festival.

Under the hashtag #wecelebrate, Concerto Köln will mark its 40th anniversary in 2025.

Since 2004, Ophelias Culture PR has been supporting the Cologne ensemble. This includes press work for international tours, album promotion for releases, as well as press invitations and interview acquisition for innovative projects. In recent years, we have increasingly advised the ensemble on strategic developments and supported digital communication on social media and the website.
