Cologne Opera

The Cologne Opera House is one of Germany’s great, long-stand­ing opera houses. Since the 2022/23 sea­son, Intend­ant Hein Mulders has been in charge of the ven­ue. Grand opera, excit­ing music­al theatre, world-class premi­eres and the cul­tiv­a­tion of clas­sic rep­er­toire works are at the centre of the pro­gramme.

High­lights from recent years include, among oth­ers, the first Cologne reviv­al of Zimmermann’s „Die Sold­aten“ in 2018, and the uncut per­form­ance of Hec­tor Berlioz’s‘ The Tro­jans 2022, Zem­l­in­skys The dwarf for the 100th anniversary of the Cologne premiere in the 1922 com­bin­a­tion with Atrawinsky’s Pet­rushka, Richard Strauss‘ The Woman Without a Shad­ow 2023 and the world premiere of Ondřej Adámek Ines 2024.

In the 2024/2025 sea­son, Opheli­as Cul­ture PR is hand­ling the world premiere of The Last Days of Man­kind by Phil­ippe Man­oury after Karl Kraus. The adapt­a­tion of this work, com­mis­sioned by the Cologne Opera, was cre­ated by com­poser Phil­ippe Man­oury in col­lab­or­a­tion with dir­ect­or Nic­olas Stem­ann and dram­at­urg Patrick Hahn. The res­ult­ing „Think­spiel“ con­sists of two large parts for vocal soloists, act­ors, choir, orches­tra, and live elec­tron­ics.
