Festival Barocco Alessandro Stradella

The Festival Barocco Alessandro Stradella was founded in 2013 as a continuation of the historic Baroque Festival of Viterbo and is now one of Italy’s most significant platforms for the exploration, rediscovery, and performance of 17th-century music.

Rooted in the unique cultural landscape of Viterbo and the Tuscia region, the festival links musicological research, artistic production, nurturing emerging talent, and international collaboration. Central to the festival is the work of Alessandro Stradella (1639–1682), one of the most original and innovative composers of the Italian Baroque, whose music bridges theatre, sacred expression, and vocal virtuosity.

This year’s edition will take place from 28 August to 27 September 2026. The programme combines musical traditions from Italy, France, Spain, the Mediterranean region and Latin America, bridging old and contemporary music, written and oral traditions, and historical instruments and new sonic worlds.

Ophelias Culture PR supports the festival and the Stradella Project, led by Andrea de Carlo, in generating broad awareness for the rich cultural heritage of the Lazio region and its most important composer, Alessandro Stradella, beyond the romanticised image of a cursed genius.
